New Community Column: Windows Internet Explorer 7 Toolbar Options

Discussion in 'Internet Explorer' started by vendor [MS], Jun 21, 2006.

  1. On reading your Column you say you can drop and drag favorites to the
favorite centre. When I first installed IE 7 I could - now I can't. My views
    also seem different to yours

Fantastic - opening IE7 via c:\windows\ie7\iexplore.exe has solved the
    toolbar problem!!!

But why is this advice buried in this newsgroup? At the very least Microsoft
should make it visible within the IE7 help system.

    Thank you "fasterhorses"

Is there anyway to let the links toolbar be 2 rows? or more... definable by
the user? I would find this really useful.

has anyone noticed that if you say, open your mail from WinLiveMessenger it
always opens in a new window, even tho your tab settings say to open it in a
new tab in current window,, you would think it should work since you set it
to open in a new tab and it should be compatible to do so since both are MS
products.. but no, will this be fixed at some point?

That was very interesting and I guess I was abit harsh about hating windows,
especially IE7 but never the less the information provided still did not let
me know how to go to favourites\add to favourites\make web page avaliable
    offline.
can you give me a link for that page please?
As in my previous post I have XP Home SP2.
    I have AVG and
    Windows defender
    computer is updated everyday.

    Hi,

how do you move the menu bar (that has the "home" icon, "RSS feed" icon,
"Help" icon, etc ...) to the same menu bar that is called "Menu Bar" (that
has the "File", "Edit", "View" menu icons etc).

    cheers

Is it possible to remove the "Favourites..." and "Add to Favourites..." and
"Quick Tabs" and "Tab List" icons at the left end of my command bar that has
the open tabs on it? (I already have a "Favourites..." command on my menu
bar, and I don't need two.)

Is it possible to move the "Back" button and the "Forward" button down to
the right end of the menu bar?

    Thanks.

    Mr T Guest

this is the way IE 7 should look with the exception of that you CAN move
command bar to top like firefox below and replace default search with compact
google toolbar like in fox too

    <img src="http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/3544/googletoolbaravantta4.png"
    border="0" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us"/>

have the google toolbar on bottom in (avant IE shell)

IE should also have tab bar option to top or bottom like ^^^ avant or fox --->

    <img src="http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/2134/googletoolbarfoxxu8.png"
    border="0" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us"/>

although in fox you cant change search setting to the toolbar buttons like
in IE ir IE based browser with favicon--->

Answer - Go to “Internet Optionsâ€, on the General Tab (1st tab) go to the Tab
settings. At the end of the first section check “Open home page for new tabs
    instead of a blank pageâ€

    Hello,

    I read the article ; but I didn't find what I want.
    Please, tell me :
    1. how to move the command tool bar to a different place ? It refuses to
move whereas the tool bar is not locked. A bug ???
    2. how to add an html editor that I prefer into the edit list. Note : this
list shows Microsoft Excel as an html eidtor !!!!!!! strange !!!!!!!!
    3. When a warning line appears (under the tool bar), clicking on it renders
the edit icon in command tool bar inaccessible !!!!!! strange !!!!!!!

    Thank you for help.

Why - oh why, is it SOO hard to find this information? I went so far as to
download firefox, but couldn't bring myself to install it yet - I decided to
go back to IE6 but just couldn't let go of this thread. After reading
through about 10 pages (or so?) I finally found this hint. THANK YOU! THANK
YOU! THANK YOU! This should be a sticky at the top of the forum.

Drat - I spoke too soon. While this hint does allow me to use the classic
menu and toolbar, it does seem to disable tabbing. The one nice feature of
    IE 7 that I like.

Also, when clicking on entries from the history listing, the window that
opens still uses the new user-be-damned layout of the browser.

    Hi,
That article is old and contains some inaccuracies such as, there is no
    Classic Menu option.

    To see more toolbar options...
    1. Hit the F11 key. Does that take you out of Full Screen mode?
    2. If you are in Full Screen mode, right-click between the Address Bar and
the Search Bar and uncheck Auto-Hide.
    3. With IE7 open, hit the Alt key. If the toolbar appears, right-click on
the toolbar and check (select) Menu Bar.

    Hope this helps,
    Don
