Just a suggestion that I'm throwing out there for the next generation of
    Outlook Express.

For those who use Outlook Express as their primary newsreader (such as
myself) I think it would be especially useful and would save a significant
amount of time if OE were able to remove expired articles, rather than
    opening every single thread
and receiving the message "Message is no longer available on the Server."

  2. There is no next edition of OE. It will be replaced by Windows Mail in
    Vista.

OE removes expired articles. It is only the articles deleted out of turn
where you get that message. Once OE knows they are gone they will be
removed the next time you visit that newsgroup.
