    Hi, new to this forum.
I too have the 'Connecting' IE8 which won't connect.
Unlike recent posts I don't have AVG - I'm using McAffee on this

I have also loaded Google Chrome on same machine and it has no problem
whatsoever connecting (hence the reason I can write this).

    Hey all,

Had to sign up to tell you my story. I have had this problem for abou
6 or more months with ie 7 on vista. Drove me insane to the point that
upgraded vista to windows 7 and ie 8. It went well for about an hou
before i noticed opening IE got stuck on connecting, all tabs got stuck
it takes about 7 to 8 times to load a page by having to close down i
and start it up again over and over.

I stumbled across this site and have read all the suggestions, non
worked for me i'm affraid..... BUT however while i was trying people
suggestions i noticed under security under internet options there is
check box stating "enable protected mode" I had a second browser open a
the time which was stuck on connecting and noticed that the status a
the bottom of the page said "Protected Browsing : on" So i thought i'
give it a go by turning it off. And hey... guess what. NO MOR
    connection issues.

Give it a whirl and see if it solves your issues! :
