NIC traffic not passing through from host to guest

we are running an application on virtual pc that requires us to monitor
traffic on one of the nics on the host machine. I have verified that we are
using the correct nic, but I do not see all the traffic on the guest nic as
    on the host.
so basically this is the setup:
we are using 2 nics from the host, one with the IP (that is set on the
virtual pc with a different IP) and the other with the traffic we want to
    monitor.

  3. Hi MollyK,

If by 'monitor' you mean that the card needs to go into promiscuous mode
and see all the packets going by - then this will not work inside of the
virtual machine in the way that you want to. From a topological point
of view the virtual machine is connected to a virtual switch - which is
bridged to the host network card. Putting the virtual network card into
promiscuous mode will not allow you to see arbitrary traffic on the
    other side of the bridge.
