Does anyone have any recommendation to someone who has problems downloading
    from Microsoft?

    Excerpts from previous message:

I also tried to update DirectX from the DirectX download page. The Explorer
information bar on the page showed: "Your security settings do not allow web
sites to use ActiveX controls installed on your computer. This page may not
display correctly. Click for options." Clicking the "Click here for
options" produced only help "Understanding the Internet Explorer
    Information bar".

Back to the page, when I clicked [Continue], a security alert popped up:
"Your current security settings do not allow you to send HTML forms." Time
to test WGA, I thought. So, I clicked the 'genuine Microsoft Windows'
hyperlink. On this page, I clicked the [Validate Now] button . nothing

I presume something about WGA is not working. Any clues where I might track
    the problem?
NOTE whilst trying this I shut down ZoneAlarm just to ensure this wasn't
affecting me. Also, other Anti-Spyware programs.

Just received a message from another site telling me my browser (IE6)
doesn't send "HTTP_REFERER header". Could this be something Microsoft has
done lately to help protect me?

Yes, Steve. If you cannot download from Microsoft, find another reputable
patch source to download from. Try, for example. Although they
cater to the large enterprise market, they have been offering patch
downloads for free if you have under 10 computers. You'll need to download
their software, have it scan your computer, and then decide which of the
recommended patches you want to download.

It found 9 patches for my computer, and I downloaded them all at one go. Of
course, I don't install them all at once.

    Hope it works for you.

Thank you. I actually became so desparate, I went back and gave Firefox
    another try. It now works on my system :-}

I still need to shut down ZoneAlarm to get around sites that advise me
around Firefox doesn't send "HTTP_REFERER header". Not happy but I'm up &

Odd. I use Firefox, and I rarely get any incompatability messages. There
is just one site that FF won't work on -- I use IE for that site. I hate to
shut down Zone Alarm, especially now that I'm on broadband.

Anyway, thanks for posting back and letting me know that you're functioning
