I have not been able to install any of the Office 2003 updates since August
16/2007. In reading from the forum, the problem is probably caused by my
registry cleaner which I have been using since about the same time
(WinUtilities Registry Cleaner). I need to install these updates which have
accumulated, however I do not have any of the original CDs (Office 2003 or
WinUtilities). Can anyone provide a simple, user friendly solution as I am
not very computer savvy and the technical procedure which I have looked up
are overwhelming for me. Anyone please provide suggestions. Thanks

For the 0x80070643 Error, and as you have ussed registry cleaner, then have a look at
    Peter Foldes Advice:-

Use the following fix below. Please post back with result

    1st Rename Office subkeys

Note: Removing the following registry keys may reset customized user
settings for your Microsoft Office programs.

    1. Close all the applications.
    2. Click on Start->Run, type in REGEDIT and click on OK.
    3. Locate and select the following registry subkeys:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0

    4. Right click on 11.0 and rename them to Old11.
    5. Close the Registry Editor.

2nd. Detect and Repair Office 2003

    1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, point to and click Control Panel.
    2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
    3. Click Change/Remove Programs on the left pane.
    4. Highlight Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 on the right pane and click
    Change.
    5. Insert the correct version of CD when it requires.
    6. Select "Reinstall and Repair" and click Next.
    7. Select "Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation".
    8. Click Install and wait the process to end.

    3rd. Install the Updates

Thanks TaurArian, but I already have Peter Foldes Advice, however I do not
have any of the CDs and this solution will not be possible for me. I am very
frustrated and upset since I will probably have to take my computer to a shop
and have a technician resolve the problem. This will cost me a pretty penny.
If you have any other solution, I welcome it.

  4. Use Belarc Advisor NOW to get the product key for Office 2003.
Borrow a set of CDs for Office 2003 from a friend/neighbor/co-worker/family
    member, etc...
Never use the Registry cleaner again.

Even taking it to a shop will require you to have the original Office 2003 program/product
    key.

You'll now have to look at replacing the Office 2003 CD.

Do you know your product key? Is it an OEM version.

If it isn't an OEM version - you can order a replacement.
