Our SBS 2003 server, has reached the 16Gb limit. I cannot upgrade to Exchange SP2 till I overcome the Large Database Problem. I just deleted a lot of old mailboxes, and a lot deleted items, around 6 or 7Gb. Changed the KEEP DELETED ITEMS & MAILBOX to zero days. Then I dismounted the Information Store and ran the ESEUTIL /d d:\..\priv1.edb command. It goes through no problem but the size stays the same or maybe a few bytes less. I have done this a few times in the past on a different server and it has always worked. Any ideas? Regards
Your application event logs should have a lot of 1221 events (online maintenance) - which will show you the amount of free space you can expect to recover from each store during an offline defrag. If you don't see much, don't bother. Why do you not think you can install E2003 SP2 right now? Exchange Server 2003 mailbox store does not mount when the mailbox store database reaches the 16-GB limit http://support.microsoft.com/?id=828070 <schoolmarm mode ON> You need to keep your server patched....SP2 should have been put on here a long time ago. That said, even with SP2, you need sensible / workable mailbox quotas in place, so your store can't grow out of control. Do the math; # of users * max size of mailbox + sufficient room for DIRT.....and err on the side of caution. <schoolmarm mode OFF>
