Is it me, or is "Zach" and "Chris Lanier" always here?
Zach CLAIMS to be "speaking for [him]self and doing this
in [his] free time". How much is Microsoft paying you guys
to be here? You guys are damn near on almost every post
here answering questions!!! Especially "Zach": Microsoft
wants you to help people with their horrible garbage
called Windows Media Player but conveniently has you "not
working" for them and under the disguise of someone doing
this "on their own free time." You must have a lot of free
time! I am waiting for you and the other little troll to
say ONE THING NEGATIVE about Windows Media Player!!! Prove
me wrong!!! And ADMIT that while RealPlayer, Quicktime,
Winamp, and others are not flawless either, Windoes Media
Player is the most FLAWED OF THEM ALL! I have spoken to
many people who agree: they have had the MOST PROBLEMS
with Windows Media Player (ANY version!).

I'll be waiting for the rebuttal, gentlemen.

Someone's got to do it! Why not me?
    garbage called Windows Media Player
Def: "Food wastes, as from a kitchen." (WMP isn't classified as "food",
    Sorry)
someone doing this "on their own free time."
    Got proof? Didn't think so.
I'm a senior in high school. I go to school for a few hours then come home.
Work on a bit of homework then answer some questions. Sounds like with
questions like this you must have a bit of free time too! You should put it
to good use. (btw, this is not good use)
    about Windows Media Player!!!
I hate the visualization included with WMP. Also the skins just suck
(except the ones made by Microsoft by The Skin Factory)
    Just did!
    flawless either, Windows Media.
Got that right. Not one media player can be perfect.
with Windows Media Player (ANY version!).
Did they ever ask for help?

A senior in high school? Not likely. In reading your
previous posts to just about everyone, you post your
replies at various times of the day and night!!! You must
have a flexible schedule, buddy! Are you in college or in
high school? I'll let you correct your lie and make
    it "college."

If you get paid by Microsoft, why not admit it? And it
SURE didn't take long for you to answer! Coincidence you
happened to drop by and read my post and replied so
    quickly?

Just admit it! Hey, I know you didn't create WMP, so I
don't blame you for the GARBAGE that is WMP.

BY THE WAY, Webster, the definitions (notice the plural)
for "garbage" are: "discarded matter, esp. kitchen refuse"
AND "anything worthless, inferior, or vile". So yes, my
using the word "garbage" to describe WMP is correct!!! I'm
not using the "kitchen refuse" definition, genius! I'm
using the "anything worthless, inferior, or vile"
definition. Look it up, high school senior, unless you
want to repeat the 12th grade!!!

    wow...
another one of those posts from someone who is perfect.
hi...tech support....what business are you in? what do
you manufacture? what products do you have on the market?
we are just wondering if your products are any better
    then the media players.

why don't you create your own media player?

High School. I have all but 3 of my credit's. So I go to school for those
classes, plus a few more that I wanted to take (A+/Networking). I get out
of school everyday at 12:45. Most of my friends don't get out until regular
time of 2:45. So why not come home and answer some questions here? Works
    for me. :)
I would love to admit that Microsoft pay's me to do this, but they don't.
Becoming an MVP got me a small reward of software, but no cash. :(
    ----
Do Microsoft MVPs receive any payment from Microsoft?
No. Microsoft does provide a small award of software, but MVPs do not
receive any monetary payment from the Microsoft MVP Program.

to drop by and read my post and replied so quickly?
Sitting at my desk where my PC is doing homework and listening to music.
Doesn't really take long to open OE and see what new posts need to be
answer. Just though I would tackle your now. :)
    the GARBAGE that is WMP.
It's kind of simple, if you don't like it, don't use it! There are many
    alternatives.
    If you say so....
Maybe a good option. That would give me more time in here to answer
    question! :)

I tend to care. I don't think that's a bad thing. What you're saying is
akin to saying "those damned doctors dedicated to helping people! how dare
they work long hours and look out for people in the ways that they can!" :p
This (newsgroup help) happens to be an area of expertise in which I can ease
and improve the lives of others.
Me? Nothing. I get paid a nice salary for my work as a development lead on
Windows Media. No part of my job description has ever encompassed my
newsgroup or community contributions. I was just raised by fine parents
(both of who are teachers), and try to reflect that interest in a positive
community and world in my efforts in life.
May I ask why this could possibly be construed as a negative? Typically
when somebody asks me for help, I try to help them. Not sure what the
problem is here. ? Perhaps we have a vastly different definition of what
    constitutes positive character traits? =)
On the contrary, I have very little free time. I just am willing to
infringe on the secondary activities others might engage in to lead the kind
of life I feel like living. For example, I don't watch TV and only play one
particular video game and that on a rare but highly competitive basis
(Marvel vs Capcom 2, for which I run local tournaments)... that's a lot of
time others waste that I use productively. I don't think you have the right
to criticize or schedule my life, anyways, but ... that's why I have the
    time I have.
? I don't understand your point. There's annoying things about everything.
    I can't fly. That's annoying. I can't dunk. That's a negative. If you
don't feel I've ever said anything negative about WMP, you aren't paying
attention. But I don't expect you to.
    I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

I honestly think you ought to calm down; take a stress pill and think things
    over.
There's nothing to rebut. Having done casual and competitive debate in
college, one of the first things you learn is that you can only rebut points
with factual bases. You're prooffering opinions, which is your right. The
only rebuttal to that can be: "That's your opinion and you're wrong."

So at this point you have failed to list any specific criticisms, but have
engaged in a lengthy diatribe about how mean and awful it is for me to help
people. Right. Have a good day, sir. =)

I can largely agree with that. I've got ~1000 WMP skins (I used to troll
around on search engines picking them up), but the only one I ever honestly
use is A_Tribute_To_Megaman, which is actually a WinAMP skin converted to a
WMP skin by the WinAMP skin converter I wrote a long time ago. If I'm going
to go mini, I think the WinAMP form factor is pretty nice.

There's some other good 3rd party skins, but that's kind of the point you
made- the default skins are only so-so.

The IMAPI CD burner needs serious work/attention.
The video settings shouldn't reset for each file.
    WMP should handle ctmp3.acm flawlessly.
The library should handle corruption seamlessly.
    DRM should never screw up.
    Remote playlists should expand.
CDText is incredibly cool and should be supported every which way til
    sundown.

Blah blah blah. I've got my lists of complaints/suggestions, and I work on
    them. :)

You continue to act like a complete jerk, insulting and belittling those who
take the time to help others. So the question becomes: what is your
motivation here? Who do you work for, and what do you hope to accomplish by
being a jerk? How are you a better person than Chris? Why are you obsessed
with him? I see Chris helping out hundreds of people - what is your magic
contribution to the world in which we live that allows you to criticize his
    (or anyone else's) contribution?

If "cheerleading" means "helping people", yay for cheerleading. He's not
saying "Yay Microsoft", he's saying "Here's how you might fix what is
troubling you...". Gynormous difference. You're oversimplifying and
misrepresenting who he is and what he's been doing so that you can snipe at
him. Yay for jealous trolls. :p

The nice thing about being an anonymous coward is that you can take potshots
at people randomly. Yay for skulking mean-spirited cowards. :p

Please either make your specific critical points or go away. I'd strongly
encourage you to go away, since you've made no positive contribution to
anyone here, and in fact are only attempting to stop people from positively
contributing to the lives of others. That's not the kind of mentality that
leads to a better planet. Just extrapolate how you're acting here to the
general case, and it quickly becomes apparent how noxious people like you
    are to anything.

I don't think you're saying anything interesting or useful, so why not just
direct the venom and further commentary directly my way via e-mail? zachdms
    at hotmail dot com, whatever.

Beyond that: Relax, guy. Take a rest. If you still are incensed that
people bother to help other people, please go get some help. There's still
time in your life to be a better person.

upon reading your original message .......
what is wrong with the media player?
what problems are you having with media player?

you only critize the media player without maybe asking
someone for help with some possible problem.

Even though I rarely have any problems with WMP, I for one appreciate your
dedication Chris. I find it encouraging that you are doing this in high
school. You will most likely develop strong work ethics and have a good
career in the future. It is sad that these trolls have so few good things
in their lives that they need to attack others to make themselves feel
better. Keep up the good work Chris.

I view a few groups on a regular basis and must say that this is one of the
most responsive (PowerPoint is another). Most of that is due to Zach's
efforts. Not to mention I find some of Zach's blog highly amusing. But of
course, if I were (i)n Tech Support I would want to rant and rave for no
    good reason also! <g>
