Order of steps for deleting subdomain, implementing DFS namespace

Discussion in 'Active Directory' started by Will Niccolls, Aug 3, 2006.

  1. Hi,

We have a subdomain in a branch office. I want to move all users and
computers to the parent domain. There is a DC server in the branch office.
Can I simply move all the PC's and user accounts to the parent domain? Then
    delete the subdomain?

One complication that occurs now: Branch employees log into Terminal Server
at our Headquarters. And they do so with an account in the parent domain.
But in their local office, at their pc, they log into a user account in the
subdomain. So I am faced with the problem of merging these subdomain user
profiles into the parent domain, where they already have an account. Their
local profiles don't have much data, most of the work is done in TS. Any
    advice?

I also will be installing a file server in the office that will use DFS
Namespaces to synchronize with our headquarters. Should I do that after the
domain change or does it matter much?

    Thanks,

    Will
