Orphaned DFS Root Shares

Discussion in 'File Systems' started by Brian Desmond [MVP], Jul 14, 2004.

  1. I have a couple of servers which were root targets in a domain DFS (2003).
Without thinking, I renamed the two servers in question without removing
them as targets. After realising that I'd need to update the DFS, I went in
and removed the targets, saying yes to force it.

Problem is, this doesn't remove the shares from the now renamed servers. I
can't do it by hand because the UI says I have to use DFS to remove the
shares and folders. I also can't readd the servers as root targets because
    the folders already exist.

I poked around in dfsutil and didn't see anything of interest. I'd
appreciate some guidance on this - not finding much on the internet.

    Thanks,
    Brian
