Running WLM on XP and on Win 7
    Is there
    1) a way to get WLM to send mail before scanning all the accounts to
    receive mail?

    2) a way to get a better notification that WLM cannot or will not send
outgoing? I have to keep scrolling the list to look at the Outbox to
see if mail has been sent.
In a recent case, outgoing mail hung because it did not like the
attachment extension type but it gave me no popup message or warning
that was obvious. This was critical mail and it was not noticed for
several days after it should have arrived at its destination. Bad
    form MS!
Pretty silly as all I did was rename the extension and tell the
    recipient to re-rename back.

    Hi, BeeJ.
Then why does your message header say:
    X-Newsreader: MesNews/1.08.03.00-gb ?

Which version of WLM are you using in WinXP? And in Win7? Do you use WLM
for mail only? Do you have many unsent items in your Outbox? (My Outbox
seldom has even one item for more than a few minutes; if there were any
Unread Items there I would likely notice them immediately or very soon.)

And is your mail/news server REALLY spamnot.com?

We'd like to help you find the answers to your questions, but you haven't
given us enough information to make a valid suggestion.

Are you using POP3/SMTP for your mail? Or Hotmail or Gmail or IMAP or some
other system? Do you have WLM set to Send messages immediately? Are you
always Online? Is your mail server one of the biggies? Or a local ISP?
Does this happen to your system often, or just once or a few times? Any
    pattern to the delay happenings?

WLM Various depending on the OS. Latest for XP and latest for Win 7.
Not using WLM for newsgroups at all.
Using both IMAP and otherwise: depends on accounts.
    AT&T ISP
Laptops are not always online. Desktop is.

How do I set WLM to send immediately?
It looks like it does if there is no outgoing hang and after all
incoming has been received. Mail is also not deleted from the server.

Happens only when there is some problem with the outgoing.
There is no notification of a problem. And that is a big problem!
I have to notice that there are still mesages in the outbox.

    WLM11
    - ALT F (or WLM button) / Options / Mail / Send / <Send Messages
    immediately)

    WLM09
    - Tools /Options/Send tab/ etc.

In WLM - wysiwyg (Send and Receive or Sync) are are always performed,
unlike OE, WM, or Outlook no Send All is available.
    - Why ? WLM's design intent is for use with a Hotmail type account using the
Http protocol to ensure all folders and messages are common between WLM and
the Hotmail account's folders on the web server (mail.live.com).....actually
    quite similar to IMAP.

The Outbox folder (left hand pane) provides a counter of messages waiting to
be sent. Messages are placed in the Outbox (by performing a Send' via the
message composition window) as 'Unread Messages'. Each unread message will
increase the counter (i.e. if two messages are in the Outbox, the counter
for the folder will show 2).

....winston has brought this to us :
    Well not exactly true here.

Tools\Options has no send now feature. Send Immediate is checked but
that has zero effect. Always has been checked.
If WLM is downloading, then it is hell bend on downloading no matter
what. No way to avoid unless I tear out an account.

Outbox counter is not the count of items in the Outbox!
If I click on an item in the Outbox the cound decreases by one.
So the count is the count of unclicked items not the number of items in
    the outbox.

The priority is wrong and there should be a Send Now button with
    priority!
This is all stupid design! No excuses.
So far it has taken days doing downloads while important outbox mail
    just sits there.

    As noted previously....wysiwyg.

    Comments.
    - You asked about how to send immediately. Not how to Send Now.
Tools/Options/Send tab is the only item applicable in your version. All
other 'Send' features continue to perform a Send and Receive (i.e. Sync) for
all or if selected, individual accounts.

    - The Outbox counter as noted previously is applicable to 'Each
*****unread**** message'. If you click on a bold message (unread), you
toggle the unread feature to read thereby reducing the number of unread and
    decreasing the counter number.
    - to change the "marked as read' timeout feature --> Tools/Options/Read tab

Regarding 'the priority is wrong here'
    - Fyi...WLM and all WLE applications are now legacy applications. Resources
now being devoted to Windows 8 Metro Apps. i.e. the design is fixed, no
future changes expected (wysiwyg). If you're using WLM 2009, it was last
updated over 2 yrs. ago (design well past the 'fixed' stage).

But...you still have the opportunity to send Feedback.

If you have a several messages in the Outbox that will not go, then I
suggest that you move them all out of there to the Drafts folder.
Test your "Send" with a test message to yourself, if all is well.
Double click and send each of the moved messages one at a time.

BeeJ used his keyboard to write :
I am trying Opera now and hope it knows how to prioritize properly.
