I'm using a very old computer (built '95).The problem is
that the default sends all temporary internet files to
disk C which with only 812MB rapidly runs out of space.I
have a second disk "D" which has lots of room on it and I
would like to move some of the temp files there instead of
having them wiped out by disk cleanup on disk "C".I am
    currently running Windows '98.

Depending on version of IE (this is for 6.x):

    Run up Internet Explorer
    Tools Menu - select Options
    General Tab
'Temporary Internet Files - click on Settings
Click on 'Move Folder' and specify D:\Temporary Internet Files

You can also move the paging file and temp files folder for windows by
right-clicking on 'My Computer', selecting Options, and setting the
Environment Strings for TMP and TEMP to be D:\Temp (these instructions may
not be applicable to your OS since I have never used Win95 or Win98).
