OWA Calendar not accepting appointments

Discussion in 'Windows Small Business Server' started by Michael Santoro, Aug 16, 2005.

  1. recently, when I try to save a new appointment to my calendar using OWA a
dialog box displays "Action can't be performed" Does anyone know how to
correct this? I am able to send mail and create new tasks using OWA. This was
working fine, but I had to repair my mail db with the eseutil tool last week
    and now this is failing.

  2. Hello Michael,

Thank you for posting in the SBS newsgroup.

According to your description, I understand that your received the error
message "Action can't be performed" when you try to save a new appointment
to your Calendar by using OWA. If I have misunderstood your concern, please
don't hesitate to let me know.

To narrow down this issue, please answer and perform the below questions
    and steps:

    I. As you mentioned, before the issue occurred, you had to repair your
mail db with the eseutil tool. Please help me re-confirm if this issue
occurs on all users or certain users. If the issue occurs on certain
specific users, please re-confirm if the issue occurs by using Outlook.

II. Please do a screen capture of this issue, and then attach it in your
    reply.

III. Please help me re-confirm if this issue occurs on Premium or Basic
model. Please also re-confirm if this issue occurs on SBS Server itself,
    LAN clients or external clients.

IV. Please re-create a new user account to check if the issue can be
    reproduced.

    V. Additionally, please perform the below steps to check if it help:

    1. At the server side:

    a. Apply the 831464 hot fix (you can check if the version of the W3core.dll
file is 6.0.3790.99 or later and if so you do not need to apply the fix
    again):

    b. Clear the IIS server files. To do so, follow these steps:

    1) Go to your "%SystemRoot%\IIS Temporary Compressed Files" (C:\WINDOWS\IIS
Temporary Compressed Files or C:\WINNT\IIS Temporary Compressed Files)
    directory.

    2) Select all of the content in this directory and delete it.

    3) Click Start->Run, type "iisreset" (without the quotes) and click OK to
    restart the IIS services.

    2. At the client side:

    a. Open IE, and go to Tools -> Internet Options.

    b. Select Delete Files, check "Delete all offline files" and click OK to
confirm that you want to delete the content. Then check if the issue
disappears. Please also delete Cookies and then try again.

    3. This issue can also be caused by TrendMicro Officescan installed. If so
please try the suggestions in the following KB article and check if the
    issue can be fixed:

842470 The contents of your Inbox and your Calendar are not displayed when
    you

Also check if you have URLSCAN installed. If so, make sure URLSCAN is
configured per the Exchange 2003 OWA template for URLSCAN. See:

    to clear the ISA cache.

    B. Locate the Urlcache folder.
    C. From the multiple files in this folder, locate the *.cdat file in this

  3. Nathan,

I am still having issues here.

    1. The issue is only affecting one user account, and it only occurs during a
OWA session. I can set calendar events in the Outlook application.

    2. I do not have a screen capture here, but it is just a message box that
pops up and says "The action cannot be performed" when I try to save a new
    calendar item.

    3. I am using SBS 2003 Premium with ISA 2004 installed. I applied SBS SP1

    4. The issue only occurs with one user. I tried a new user and other
existing users. Those accounts are not affected, and post items over OWA
    without issue.

    5. I applied all your server side steps, and still do not have any luck.

    Any suggestions would be great.

    Mike

  4. Hi Michael,

Thank you for your quick reply.

I am sorry for the delayed response due to weekend. Please understand that
the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals to
answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
    greatly appreciated!

As you mentioned, this issue only occur on the one specific user account
with the OWA session. When OWA users try to create a new calendar item and
save it, they receive an error: "action cannot be performed" and the
calendar item will not be created. Based on my deep research, please
perform the below steps to troubleshoot this issue:

    1. On the computer that is running Exchange 2000 Server, start Registry
    Editor (Regedt32.exe).

    2. Locate and click the following key in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

    3. Right-click Services, point to New, and then click Key.

    4. Name the key MSExchangeFBPublish.

    5. Click the MSExchangeFBPublish key, right-click the MSExchangeFBPublish
key, point to New, and then click Key.

    6. Name the key Parameters.

    7. Click the Parameters key, right-click the Parameters key, point to New,
    and then click Key.

    8. Name the key your_server_name, where your_server_name is the name of
    the Exchange 2000 server.

    9. Select the your_server_name key, right-click the your_server_name key,
point to New, and then click String Value. Add the following string value:
    Name: SystemAttendantDN
    Type: REG_SZ
    Data:
    /O=Your_Organization_Name/OU=Your_Administrative_Group_Name/cn=Configuration
    /cn=Servers/cn=server_name/cn=Microsoft System Attendant

    10. Quit Registry Editor.
