Packard Bell 6142

Discussion in 'Windows Media Center' started by Nigel Andrews, Jan 30, 2004.

  1. I have just committed to buy a Packard Bell IXTREME 6142, I hope I have done
    right.

After agonzing a long while over which to buy, this seems to have a good all
round spec and a good price, but how reliable I don't know. At least PCW
gave it a good write up at the end of last year.

Any good news first please then I'll be ready for the bad!

Quite a good choice - not that there's that many to choose from in the
UK. We support the PBs at my work so I only know about the problems
people have with them - just make sure that you set the TV tuner to
"DVB-T" (even if you're just using terrestrial TV through an aerial)
when running through the TV Signal Wizard otherwise TV won't work.

Thats the only common problem we've come across so far with that model
    - the HPs however seem to suffer from the 'no sound on scheduled
recordings' problem that I have on my MCE box. (Yes I'm going to keep
mentioning it until Microsoft or Hauppauge fix it!!)

You can find a write-up for your machine with a list of
    FAQs/Downloads/Specs here:

  3. Excellent - thanks very much for that link (a great confidence builder).

I feared I would be shot down for a posting with no question or any benefit
    to others.

  4. I've not thought to check if the unit will come with MCE 2004 or the
original version. I hope for 2004 obviously.
