    Hi,

    I have a 2 windows 2003 SP1 machines ina Win2k Active Directory Domain. I
undertsand the the Performance Logs and Alerts service will start once you
start a perfomance counter. However when I attempt to start the counter an
error is returned, I do not have this problem with my other Win2003 Server
which does not run SP1, I undertsand that the service runs under the
networkService acc, but cannto understand where the permissions have changed
    in SP1.

    Thanks for your help.

Check the system event log for error details.

    Dave,

    Hi, thx

The system log shows the following error:

    Event ID: 7024

The performance Logs and Alerts service terminated with service-specific
    error 2003 (0x7D3)

    Does this help?

    Regards

0x7D3 = The requested metafile operation is not supported.

Have you tried other counters? Also try a counter from another object.

    Dave,

I have attempted to run several different logs with different objects but
all return the same error code...
The service enters a start state, a stop state and then the error message. I
still cant help thinking that some permission may have changed for the
Network Service acc under the Win2003 SP1?

    Regards
