    Hey there,

I will be migrating our existing SBS2003 to a new box. And here's how i
plan to do it and was wondering if it will work.

    Here are the steps:

    1) Move all existing mailboxes to pst files with exmerge.
    2) Manually create all users since we do not have that many users.
    3) The new SBS box will still use the same static ip as the old one and
    also the same name.
    4) once the new SBS 2003 installation is done plug it back to the
network and remove the old SBS 2003 box.

I was wondering if that will work. Or will all the other computers other
    servers have any problems working.

    Thanks

    Eric

  4. Hi Eric

Yes provided you backup to a device which will be useable by new box for
restore. Backup to a HD, external USB, Extra IDE in server etc. is good
    option here.

    Hello all,

Just want to let everyone know that SBS2003 do not work when you are
trying to restore it to a new hardware. I just dont understand why
microsoft do not provide any easier ways to restore or migration
techniques or tools for SBS2003 from one hardware to another.

In case they forget, hardware do fail and do get upgraded.

Oh well, time to do it the manual way........

  6. Hi Eric

It has worked for me and for others. Did you do a Full backup using the SBS
Backup Wizard? Did the Backup Log have any errors? What happened when you
tried to restore? What Media did you use for Backup? Post your Backup Log
    report from the Backup.
