I'm running Media Player 10 on Windows XP Service pack 2

When I'm ripping cds it is automatically playing them and won't allow me to
stop the playback. It is also ripping in real time which it never use to do.

Also, while its playing moving the volume control up and down does nothing.
    It stays at maximum volume.

You can even open another audio file while its ripping and both what you're
ripping and what you've just opened will play simultaneously??? In this
instance the volume does affect the file you've just opened but not wha't
currently ripping. It's almost as if a ghost program is playing the cd but I
can't locate it to cancel it.

Please help, I don't want to have to wait the entirety of a cd just to rip
it. It was also nice to be able to listen to other things while I was
    ripping.

    Thanks

You're using Analog ripping now. Switch to Digital ripping and this will go
    away.
