    Hi,

I am trying to play an avi file on my Windows Media Player, and I can only
hear the audio, I cannot see the video. I have Windows Vista, and just
bought my computer a month ago. Any help would be much appreciated.

This is probably a DiVX format video. If it was downloaded from one of the
Usenet binary groups it almost certainly is.

In that case, you need the (free) DiVX codec. You can get it here:

    http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/

You just need the codec--not all the other stuff they try and push onto you.

A useful utility is GSpot, a free utility that analyzes videos and tells you
what codecs you have/need to play them:
