Possible? Create Trust Rel. btwn Stand-Alone Server & Domain?

Discussion in 'Windows Server' started by McGinnisConsulting, Mar 17, 2005.

  1. I have two Win 2003 Servers that I'd like to establish a trust relationship
between. One is a stand-alone server and the other is the PDC of a domain.

Is there a way to do this?

I only really need one account (my Veritas Backup Exec) to be trusted. The
stand-alone server is running Backup Exec 10.0 and the domain server has the
    Remote Agent for Windows Server.

  2. No. Trusts cannot be created between standalone workstation and a domain.

You could join the second machine to the first machine's domain. Or, you
could try to create the Veritas account in the domain (with the same
password) and see if that solves your problem.

    Thanks for the info.

The customer, here, feels that security concerns were the reason for not
grouping the servers in a single domain. I'm not sure how much is gained by
this but maybe a workable compromise would be to have some servers grouped
    into separate domains.

Then I could either set up transitive trusts to provide the backup account
with necessary rights or I could merge the domains into a tree and use
    specific non-transitive trusts.

    Opinions? Suggestions?

    Thanks,
