Print Migrator 3.1 is not migrating any ports

Discussion in 'Server Migration' started by Kristin Lounsbury, Aug 12, 2004.

  1. Hi,

I'm trying to use Print Migrator 3.1 (3.1.0.3) to migrate our print
server configuration from an NT 4.0 server to our new Windows Server
    2003.

Our printer ports are mostly Standard TCP/IP Ports, with just a handful
of LPR and ExtendNet ports. The ports do not have duplicate names. I'm
not expecting the LPR or ExtendNet ports to be migrated, but why aren't
any of the TCP/IP ports migrated?

I'm able to backup the old NT4 server successfully, including the ports.
However the restore process does not seem to even attempt to create any
    ports on the new server.

Oddly enough, I once tried checking the option to "Attempt LPR to SPM
Conversion". When I did this, a few of the LPR ports did indeed get
migrated as Standard TCP/IP Ports. However, the existing Standard
TCP/IP Ports still did not get migrated.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Kristin

  2. Hi Kristin,

    Thanks for your posting here.

In general, we will convert the LPR port when restore the configuration of
NT printer server on Windows 2003 computer. What are the remained Standard
TCP/IP Ports? Still LPR ports or others ports?

Would you please send me the printer backup file (PM Cab file)? I would
like to test on my side. My mailbox is .

    Have a nice day!

  3. Hi Bob,

After reading your reply on Friday, I took another look at my
configuration and finally noticed that my old server is using "HP
Standard TCP/IP Ports" whereas the new server is using "Standard TCP/IP
Ports". Are these indeed different monitors?

    Thanks,
    Kristin

  4. Hi Kristin,

Yes, they are different monitors. In WinNT, there is no "Standard TCP/IP
Ports" and we often use LPR port at that time. As for the "HP Standard
TCP/IP Ports", it was added by the HP printer software.

You need to install the HP Standard TCP/IP Port Monitor on the new Windows
    Server, then perform migration.

    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/hpspm1707_en.exe

    Wish it helps.
