Hi i am having problem with exchange 2003. The priv1.edb file size does not
change, and the priv1.stm does not change too. I have plenty of E00xx files.
I beleive they are not commited to the database. I noticed that the dates on
both files are different. edb is 1/7/2006 stm is 1/4/2006. I did a restore
from a backup because hard drive issues. The backup also failing because of
that. I do have an edb and stm file dated 1/3/2006. before the hard drive
went bad. Can I just move them to the mdbdata directory to fix the issue? I
know i may loose some e-mails.

    Please help me here

If you also have all the transaction log files since that 1/3 backup, you
    should be in good shape.

But I'd suggest a PSS call in your case, given what I'm reading between the

For some reason, we lost the licenses on SBS2003, I called Microsoft, we
fixed the issue, on a reboot, we got error that says "can not find HAL"
file. I got brand new hard drive, I follow microsoft instructions ina
document from the knowledge base on how to restore the SBS2003 from a backup
copy. I install SBS2003, Install The service pack (windows 2003 serer SP!)
The rest were not done because a guy install windows 2003 server sp1 by
mistake without applying the rest of them, ran ntbackup restore and i got
everything back. the backup and exchange was working after that for several

Of what - the entire thing over again?
    Are your databases mounted?
What do you see in your backup logs?

    Thanks for your help guys.
I called Microsoft PSS and they had me install all the rest of the service
packs, and everything works great so far.

new hard drive and the backup error was related to reading priv1.stm file.
