Problem with KB913670

I just checked and see that the Australian time change update was not
hidden during my updating, so I can't turn it back on. Then I tried
to hide the KB913670 update, but the applicable check box is grayed
out. So then I checked the KB article for KB913670 but it was not
    available. You can't win! :(

    usual NR)

Well, I just - for no apparent reason - retried running the update
(from the shield in the system tray/notification area).

This time, for the first time, my firewall (ZoneAlarm) asked me
whether to let the application access the Internet. I said OK, and
the update seems to have run successfully, as verified in my update
    history.

I had tried before with ZA's firewall set to its lowest security
    level with no success.

    It's a mystery to me.

Tom, like you, I have KB912475 update installed but manually deleted all my
update folders under Windows and then removed them from the Control Panel.

I re-installed KB912475 hoping it would "reinstall" and could then be
uninstalled via Windows Update, but no such luck.

For me, it's not a big deal, but it's annoying to have that "critical"
update showing everytime I run Windows Update, but I probably won't use the
    "hide this update" option either.

I also had this problem, however I am running Windows XP X64 Edition Service
Pack 1 on the affected computer. I Fixed the problem by performing a repair
install on the affected Computer. We called Microsoft Support about the
problem, they thought that it was a problem with our computer. We do not
know if the problem will come back or not.

Oops, just realized failed on 2 of the 4. The two laptops failed to update,
    the two desktops worked fine.

And yes, the update shield keeps popping up and saying I have updates
    available.

P.S. Level One Tier Support was going to try to Charge Us $35.00 U.S.A.
Dollar's, to fix the Problem, just FYI. We said NO to the Charges and

I've also got the 0x problem for kb913670.

Using: XP Pro SP 2, MSIE 7.0.5346.5 (damn version number *still* isn't
cut/pastable), with every addon except MuWebControlClass disabled,
*all* downloaded active X control deleted.
Essentially all other processes terminated prior to running MSIE.

Robin writes: That is not an error code. An error code has eight
    hexadecimal digits after the "0x"

Sorry, Robin: 0x is an error code. You might not expect to see 0,
or want to see 0, and it obviously indicates some bug in error
    reporting,
but 0x is a perfectly reasonable 32-bit integer (which is what your
8 hex digit value is, too).

Not really. 0x is incorrect syntax for a hex number, which implies
to me that the error-reporting software is broken. Broken software
    from Microsoft? Couldn't be :)

In C and other languages which imitate its syntax, octal numbers are
notated by a leading 0 and the presence of digits from 0 to 7, and
hex numbers by 0x followed by one or more, not zero or more, digits
    from 0 to f. Hex numbers aren't case-sensitive. Anyway, a hex 0
would have to written as 0x0 if you wanted to make it clear that you
meant hex. Of course, 0 is the same in all three bases (duh!).

Just for fun: 0xBAD could be an error code, and 0xC0FFEE could keep
    you awake.

    Ah, success! Thanks Tom:
I also had the directories of old patches removed, but rather than delete
them I had archived them. Simply copying back the $NtUninstallKB912475
directory and the patch worked fine. :)
