Recently I have been experiencing a strange problem with
the MSN Messenger'online contact list' in Outlook Express.
I think that this problem started after installing version

When I would set one of my contacts as an 'Online
Contact', I used to be able right click on the contact and
go into 'properties' and select a name for it. Now when I
try to do this, a new (separate) online contact is
created, and only the e-mail address is displayed. When I
try to right click on that contact and
select 'properties', this option is grayed out and
unavailable. So all new contacts added, are displayed as e-
mail addresses on the 'online contacs' list in Outlook
    Express. This is quite annoying.

I am running Windows 98 and MSN Messenger 6.0 (6.0.0602),
    with the old RTC.Dll

I read the previous posts, but can't find anything related.

Can anyone give me some advice?

Just taking a stab at this. In the Messenger main window go to
    Contacts>Manage Accounts>View Contacts by
Have you selected Friendly Name or Email Address? I can't test this because
I am using Plus! and for me to change the names of my contacts in my list I
have to have the View Contacts by Email Address option selected. I found
the same thing as you though, the properties option is greyed out for the
MSN contacts but not those in my OE address book. If you are not running
Plus! you may want to experiment with that view option.
