For some reason my WLM has been having problems just lately. Occasionally
when I reply and send an email a screen comes up that says WLM has a
problem, it goes through a short period where it says it is trying to
identify and fix the problem, the says WLM will restart. This only take
about a minute total but is aggravating. Anyone have an idea what might be
wrong. (other than telling me not to use WLM). I'm using the most current
    version of WLM.

Force WLM to perform a compact by resetting the counter to 1)
    (ALT F - Options - Mail - Advanced - Maintenance)
    and
    Repair WLM
(Programs and Features - Windows Live Essentials - double click and choose
    the Repair option)

Before performing either of the above, ensure no messages are present in the
    Outbox.

Thanks, Winston. I did the repair function for Windows Live Essentials
2011. We'll see how that works. As for resetting the counter to 1, I don't
show that option in Maintenance in WLM 2011???

    Hi, Panic.
Have another look. When that Maintenance page first appears, the box says
"100", but we can enter any smaller integer in the box - or click the
up/down arrow to get the number we want. That line is just above the "Clean
    Up Now" box.

Bingo! Thanks, RC. It's now set to 1. I hope that fixes the problem.

    Fyi...
You only need it set to 1 to force the compact (i.e. not necessary to
compact after each session of use)

WLM can be squirrelly when compacting. To ensure it happens on program
    close...
    Open WLM in Mail mode
Do not access contacts, news, calendar, or feeds
    Click Work Offline
    Click WLM button/Exit ( or Alt F X)
Wait for the compact to start and do not interrupt.
Once complete, open WLM and reset the counter to a number of your preference
    (I set mine to 20)
