    I am having a really annoying problem with Windows Update.

    My system is win98. The version of mdac I have installed is 2.7.

    I keep getting notified that the update I reference in the subject line
    needs to be installed. I tried a couple of times, but apparently the install
    is failing, most likely due to the fact that I am using a different (more
    current) version of the mdac component.

    Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the update notification related to this
    particular update?

    This update deals with 2.1, 2.5, and 2.6 MDAC and wouldn't think it
    was installed for your 2.7 MDAC. The update checking method needs
    to be rewitten to include a check for higher than 2.6 MDAC versions.
    In the meantime....

    I'm running win98se with a succesful Q329414 2.5 MDAC install, below
    is a partial reg file from my machine, perhaps merging this will stop
    WU from telling you that you need the update? Perhaps not and in
    such a case please remember to delete this key along with backing up
    the registry, ect. Further, you should drill down to this key and
    see what, if any, values are already there before and after merging.
    You should probably reboot after the merge in order to test the full
    validity of the key stopping WU from reporting the update as needed.

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Updates\DataAccess\Q329414-25]
    "IsInstalled"=dword:00000001
    "ServicePack"=dword:00000003

  3. Hello Steve,

    Can you look at the file C:\Windows\Windows Update.log and see if any errors
    are reported toward the bottom? Please post any relevant lines.
