Sometime in the month of June I got an update
announcement but I didn't have time to go download or
Install it. Then a few days later it was announced on
our local news that, that particular update was causing
major computer problems and they were working on the
problem. Now I have 6 critical updates needing to be
installed and 13 "other updates". I don't know which one
to avoid. And second...a friend told me to always D&I
every update. Is that true or are there ones I don't
need? Thanks! I am running XP.

Customize the Windows Update site so that you can read about what you
are installing and whether or not you actually need the update.
Security updates should be done. Waiting awhile after a Windows Update
comes out to determine it's effects, is always the prudent thing.

Decide for yourself whether you want them or not. After all, it's your
    computer ;)
