    Hi,

Can anyone recommend a hardware firewall that costs less than $250 and just
    does "firewalling"?

I have 2 webservers each with multiple sites/IPs and a SQL box to go online
at a colo place. I tried a Zyxel ZyWall 10ii, but it is incapable of
MultiNAT (a bug in the firmware apparently - I know this from first hand
    use).
While MultiNAT is desirable, it is not necessary - I can just have all the
IPs public and don't mind paying for it, so a Firewall that does not do any
routing is fine too as long as the LAN-port to LAN-port traffic never goes
    to the WAN side.

I tried Windows2003 server's firewall, but it is defective and does not work
after the first reboot (locks all traffic out after a reboot), so that
    solution is out too.

  2. Hi Dave.

I recommend that you might also want to post in firewall group such as
comp.security.firewalls. If you don't mind buying used there are some
tremendous deals on Ebay. For instance you could get a Netscreen 5XP [what I
use at home] or a Sonic Wall SOHO3 for less than your target price. The base
units however have a limit of 10 IP addresses originating from your network.
Most of the manufactures have online manuals that you can download to see
exactly what their product does and how to configure it. My Netscreen 5XP
can run it NAT or routed mode.--- Steve
