Wait a minute, you say "SP2 has undergone extensive testing on hundreds of
thousands of computers. It is a solid, secure product."

But at the end you direct people to a link for troubleshooting?

IMHO if there is still a need for troubleshooting, the SP2 should have
stayed shelved, just as other premature releases, I will go back and
reinstall SP1, it will work fine as before and I must say Mr, Cook's point
seems a bit more valid than yours given windows previous history of premature
    releases.

Sorry guys, but AMF . back to the old basic

Taken right from your troubleshooting post!!! read on mr. MVP

"One example is the 0xC0000135 error saying that winsrv is missing. No
specific cause or workaround is known, so the only general way out is a
repair installation of Windows XP, followed by applying Service Pack 2 again.

But read this entire chapter first, just in case your particular cause is
    described later."

Nothing later was discussed, I have reloaded XP and SP2 3 times, going on 4,
BUT I insure you I WILL NOT add SP2 this time. like you said cancel all your
insurance, nothing bad has happened ......yet, well something bad has
happened and I have spent a whole day, and yes it is only one of several, but
so far no fixes, AND IF IT ANIT BROKE, DON'T FIX IT. there are other virus
and firewall programs that DO work. what a joke AGAIN.

You can get beaties using Mozilla/Firefox/Opera. Don't think you're bullet
proof because you use them instead of IE. Spywareblaster and Spybot, Search
and Destroy don't cover Mozilla just for grins, you know.

Serenity, I like the lol, should have been lmfao actually, he he
What a bear, and by the way, the pop up blocker only blocks popups when you
need them, all the Microsoft ones are let through, what a joke, Gates needs
    to be lashed.

I am going back to SP1 on all for now, and my old pop up tool, it worked
    better.

My network seeking (LAN) isw twice as slow with SP2.

Thanks for the humor, i hope I do not anger well I guess I don't really care
    about that either he he

Actually, under the lemon law, due to recall on vehicle and inability to fix
after 3 attempts, you DO get a new vehicle, I did on a 1989 Thunderbird Super
    Coupe.

b.t.w. I am not sure if you are she or he as mentioned in other post, and I
am sorry I was flaming last night, but 8 reinstalls of XP, and SP2 still will
not work on 1 of 8 computers, and my network seeking (LAN) has slowed to 1/2
speed, so I am just not a happy camper at this moment. this is a lot of time
wasted on setup, that could be used working or gaming.

I must admit that XP is the next best thing to Win 3.1, but it still has a
few flaws here and there, and I make my living working with a computer as
well as building custom PC's for many of my clients, so I am facing a monitor
more than 2/3 of my life, know what I mean?

VERY well said David, I actually put up an apology for my flaming attitude
last night, but after 8 reinstalls, 7 then SP2, then still will not restart,
my #8 is SP1, and all updates BUT SP2, ya know.

Bob, I can tell you the firewall in SP2 is very easy, so far, as we have to
use it at work (SP2) I mean, but the pop up blocker sucks, even on high I get
pop ups, but only the one microsoft want you to get. I bet it is a $$ thing,
    ya think. he he

Alias, try AdAware with AdWatch vs. 6, it works on EVERYTHING, so far from my
end, i have used them for almost a year now, and it also helps with pop ups,

I use AdAware SE and my Mozilla has pop up protection. I have the Google bar
doing it on IE. I also have Spywareblaster and Spyware Guard.

Everybody listen to this it's so true! Microsoft really
screwed up this time. I was one of the unlucky ones. My
pc wouldn't boot up, not even in safe mode after the XP
sp2 was installed. The only way was to reinstall the OS,
Then the drivers had to be installed over again, not an
easy task. I'm still trying to figure out how to install
the driver for the ethernet controllers.
    router/firewall/accesspoint, etc.]

Related, yes, but caused by an oversight or bug in SP2, probably not. I
would guess that this PC had a somewhat marginal HDD subsystem, & installing
SP2 was enough to bring it to the fore.

    Hello All,

I know that this is really late, but thought I would give my 2 cents anyway.
I installed SP2 as soon as it came out. I had no problems at all. I'm not
denying that people do have problems with SP2, but think of the 1000s of
different configurations on peoples systems with all the different
applications out today. It would be nice if it didn't happen but it does.
BTW, in case you are wondering I came across this thread looking for MFT
issues on a 2k3 server. Which became corrupt without doing updates or
    installing new apps.
