Redo DFS

Discussion in 'File Systems' started by Joshua Graham, Jul 14, 2004.

  1. I am new to DFS and I am trying it out right now, however, I do not like the
name I gave to my root and therefore I want to change it. Is there a way to
change the name of the root or do I have to start over. If I have to start
over and I have a replication partner what steps do I need to take? Do I
just stop replication, remove the links and then remove the root? I still
have files in my staging area, would I have to delete the files in that area
    if I removed DFS?

Thanks for the help and insight

Start over. In order to do this, stop replication/FRS on both replication
partners (using 'net stop ntfrs' at the command line or stopping 'File
Replication Service' in services.msc). Then delete the existing root &
links and create your new root and links. FRS should restart once the new
roots/links are created and it should go from there. Staging files will be
reclaimed/deleted. If you use the same directory paths (shares) for the
links, you may get a FRS eventlog error stating that the replica roots
overlap; this should be only be a temporary situation caused by previous
configuration data stored in the FRS database and it should clear up in
    5 -10 minutes.
