I have a Vista PC in the living room with a webcam and I was wondering if
anyone knows of good remote monitoring software that I could use to monitor
the room while I am away from home?

    Cheers.

a very simple way is to use live messenger on both computers... and install
    the live messenger PLUS!
add-on for live messenger, that has an option to "autoaccept" invitations
    for webcam use...
    http://www.msgpluslive.net/
you will have 2 different msn accounts on for each computer.. so you will
start a webcam conversation from one computer to the other, the other will
auto accept via the live messenger plus auto accept function and you will be
    able to see
    the other webcam

and of course messenger is here http://messenger.msn.com

one more detail on that... you can define live messenger plus! to auto
    accept ONLY from
the users you want.. so you will define it to autoaccept ONLY from the
account you will be using on the other side....

I hope you have understood all this.. if not.. I am at your service to help
    you out.
