I got a new IR receiver and now my remote does not work. The red light on
the receiver blinks when I press the remote buttons but nothing happens in
    MCE 2005.

I've tried removing the batteries for a long period of time and event the
paper clip shorting trick but it still doesn't work.

I don't think either the remote or the IR receiver are bad because Windows
recognized the receiver and installed the drivers with no problems and the
red light blinks which means that the remote is talking to the receiver.

    Any suggestions? Thank you

May either be a conflict with some other usb device or possibly a power
management issue. Try stripping system to bare and remove anything you don't
need , along with the drivers, and then test it again. just some suggestions..

Do other usb devices work fine? Do u have another MCE you can try the remote

    Hey Bytesurfer,
I've tried everything, including all of you suggestions but I can't seem to
be able to reset the remote because it still turns on/off my television set
with the programmed button. Is there any other way to reset it?

I've tried that too Jason .. Can something here be defective even though all
the buttons on the remote work and the IR receiver seems to receive all the
signals sent from the remote? Can it be a software issue?
