I'd like to know if it is at all possible to allow a domain user to access
the event log on a remote server (say server 2003 standard or 2008 R2) but
not have the ability to log into the server itself. For example, to allow
someone to monitor the server logs but not allow them to make any changes to
    the server itself.

    Much appreciated.

  2. I don't know if there is a type of permission for this narrow activity.
However, there is another way: You could schedule a script to run on that
server and get it to extract all or some logs, then send them by EMail to
    one or several recipients.

Thanks for the suggestion Pegasus and also for the link ME it was very
useful. I also found this which could be used:

I've seen that Win Server 2008 has a Event Log Readers group. I think that
may solve the problem to read the logs on Server 2008.
