    Here is the situation.
We have a very old DC on our network (most all the servers and
applications were installed and configured long before I arrived)
running Windows 2000 SBS with Exchange.
Their has been a Windows 2003 Ent server that has been promoted to DC
    and has ALL roles now.
There is also a Windows 2003 machine with Exchange 2003 Ent running
that contains all of our mailboxes now too, and seems to run without
On the SBS 2000 machine all Exchange services have been stopped for
    quite a while - about a year.
In the Exchange System Manager on the Exchange 2k3 box in the
'Servers' section there are both servers listed - SBSmail and the new
    MAIL01(Exchange 2k3).
We wish to completely remove the old SBS machine; including the
references and settings for the Exchange installed there too.
There is no Exchange 2000 listed in the Add/Remove Programs
BUT there is a Microsoft Small Business Server 2000 listed. When I
clicked on Change/Remove I was prompted for the installation CD - I
provided the one that is with the server MS SBS2000 and none of the 4
    CDs were recognized as 'correct'.
How can we go about removing the Exchange Server from the organization
without messing up something in AD or the Exchange settings.
I may be over thinking this and I hope I am.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I am trying to get this
organization back into the 21st century and hopefully into this

You may have to resort to manually removing Exchange 2000 and the
SBS2000 from your AD (ie search out the Microsoft instructions for
manual removal of a dead Ex2000 installation and a dead 2000 DC -
    they're fairly straight-forward, if a bit long-winded).

IIRC (it's been a while), there are also some docs you need to read
about removing the last Ex2000 box from a domain (same as there were
    for 5.5).

Also IIRC, you can run the Exchange 2000 setup directly from the
SBS2000 CD set (I _think_ it's on CD2). That should let you remove
    Exchange 2000.

After uninstalling Exchange 2000, you can try to DCPromo the SBS2000
down and out of the AD (noting that the SBS box will become unusable in
    the process),

If these fail, you will have to use those instructions for dealing with
dead servers (ie rip the SBS2000 out, treat it as dead).

Well I found the Exchange install on CD 3 of the SBS set and ran the
Then removed the server from the Exchange System Manager.
    It's now gone! Yay!
Now it's just a matter of finding any of the AD objects still relating
to it and killing them properly.
THANKS! I was so flustered I didn't think to look at the other CDs!
Always helpful to have someone from 'outside' look at issues. - I was
    way over thinking this.
Now on to adding an Exchange 2010 to the domain and then moving/
migrating the Exchange 2003 server to it.
    Again Thank YOU!
