Removing MS Anti-spyware?

Discussion in 'Windows Media Center' started by CuriousGeorge, Jun 14, 2005.

  1. I ran Windows Update a few days ago and along with some other updates it
installed the Microsoft Anti-spyware application, or so it claimed. I can
now find no entry in the Add/Remove Programs control panel, nor the Start
menu. Is this an indication it didn't get installed after all?

I'm asking here because I plan to try out a Media Center Extender and was
informed here that the MS Anti-spyware app is incompatible with extenders.
I just want to be sure I don't have the software installed.

AFAIK, you can not install Microsoft Antispyware from Windows Update.
It is beta software that you must download from the beta site. Is it
possible that you're confusing it with the Microsoft Malicious Software
    Removal Tool?

  3. Ah yes, you're right. Sorry for the confusion.
So does anyone know if the Malicious Software Removal Tool has any
incompatibilities with Extenders or MCE in general?

It's compatible with both MCE and MCX. It just scans
your system for known viruses, worms, etc.
