Server name was changed after the dfs root was setup. Can the dfs root be
changed without affecting the \shares folder?

Old-servername\shares I want to name it new-servername\shares and keep the
    contents of \shares.

  3. I don't think you can rename the namespace like that, although you can
    rename folders in the namespace.
The thing that surprises me is that the purpose of the namespace is to have
a directory structure that is independent of physical server names, so it
does not make a lot of sense to name your namespace after the server, or to
change it if the server name changes.

I inherited a domain with hundreds of Templates that point to a file on a server we are retiring. I was considering the possibility of naming the DFSROOT as my [oldservername] to keep the shares and hard links viable.
