Renamed photos in chronological not alphabetical order

I'm having problems with the order vista wants to put my photos in once I've
named them. I download them from my camera fine and it comes with the normal
P20200015 or whatever code. When I rename the file (within the folder I
create) it then puts my pictures into alphabetical order instead of leaving
them in the order they're in. How do I keep them in chronological order when
I rename them without having to remember what order they were in and change
them back by drag and drop?
    Thanks in advance

I'm not clear on the problem you're having. Can you post an example?

If I select all the photos in a folder (Ctrl+A) and for example, I right
click the first photo and rename it DisneyLand all of the successive photos
will remain in the original chronological order and they will be named
    DisneyLand(2), DisneyLand(3), DisneyLand(4), etc.

Can't you just click on the Date Taken column header? Or Date Modified,
    whatever your preference.

eg. i have photos 1-5, I then want to rename the pictures of where they are,
    individually not as a group.

    1. Tower Bridge
    2. Dali Museum
    3. Buckingham Palace
    4. London Eye
    5. Harrods

say this was the chronological order I took them in, when I rename them from
the number to the name it would then put them in the order 3, 2, 5, 4, 1. I
would then have to go back to the folder and drag and drop them back into
order 1-5. Does that make more sense?

I understand. A possible workaround would be to rename them:

    1 Tower Bridge
    2 Dali Museum
    3 Buckingham Palace
    4 London Eye
    5 Harrods

    OR

    a Tower Bridge
    b Dali Museum
    c Buckingham Palace
    d London Eye
    e Harrods

If you are renaming them in Windows Explorer, have you tried adding a column
for Date Taken, and sort by that?
When you rename a file, it should not change the sort position.

I had tried that and it kept most of the order and took a few out of order.
Just tried again, drag and dropped the couple out of place ( I can't work out
why) and the rest are ok. Lets hope it keeps working(generally). Many thanks

Are you using Date Taken or Date Modified?
Date Taken would, as its title suggests, keep them sorted by the date the
    photo was taken.
Date Modified would change if the picture is edited and resaved. I'm not
sure if renaming counts as "modified" but it might, which would mean it
would then be sorted by the day you renamed the pic. So Date Taken may be
    more what you want.

I believe that you could also uncheck "auto-Arrange" ( in view) then
they will stay in the order that they now are.
