Renaming Server after DFS configuration

    Hello Everyone,

I am in the process of migrating a NT file/print server to a 2003 R2 Std.
server with DFS. I need to keep the same server name so that users do not
have to remap all of their network drives, these drives aren't currently
mapped through login scripts, they were originally mapped at each
workstation. I have installed DFS and DFS Replication on the new server that
will be renamed later. Am I able to configure DFS and set up the namespaces
now, or should I wait until after the server has been renamed? I want to
minimize the amount of reboots and ensure server stability after I migrate
the shares and printers over to the new server and it is renamed.

Remember that persistently mapped drives must be re-created after performing
the DFS consolidation process. It looks like you'll need to re-create all of
those mapped drives no matter what solution you end up using.
