Other than booting from the CD and running Startup Repair Tool and Restore
Points, what tools are available to clean up a damaged Vista install?

I attempted to install Nortels Contivity VPN Client 5.x and while it
installed, it had massive operation problems which make it unusable. It
would not uninstall so I rolled the system back using System Restore. I now
have a number of IE problems and I want to have Vista scan for and replace
any damaged system files. SFC /SCAN NOW would be great but I understand that
code has been removed from Vista B2.

I tried booting from the CD and running the SrT but after quite a delay, it
failed with a generic message which provided no insight into the actual cause
    of the failure.

I can not see a REPAIR feature, like that which exists when booting from a
    Win2K or XP CD.

So, again the question is: How can Vista installed be repaired?
