Replacing win2k DC with 2k3

Discussion in 'Active Directory' started by Nathan Weldon, Sep 7, 2005.

  1. I'm replacing a windows 2000 server with a windows 2003 server. The old
win2k is an active directory DC, it is the only one at this location. I
already have two DC's, one 2k, and one 2k3 at my other location so I'm
assuming I do not need to do any further shema modifications to have this DC
join the domain without a hitch. Is this the case? I also had exchange 2003
and had to do schema modification before that as well.
Also, is there someplace I can set a users home directory in a GPO or do I
always have to use the regular user properties dialogue? I've looked before
but yet to find anything in user settings.

  2. No - You don't have to prepare Your domain for windows 2003 again if you
    done it in the past.
You will not find it in GPO settings. If You want to automate this task
You have to use script or third party tool of some kind.

  3. Thanks, I'll just script the home folder issue.
