I was rearranging some photos between folders in Windows Photo Gallery
and when it asked me to move and replace or move and copy the photos I
had selected, I chose move and replace. Next thing I know, half the
pictures that were in the folder were gone and I can't find them. Is
there any way to retrieve photos that I have moved and replaced???

Apparently you had some folders with
photos from different sessions that had
    the same names (probably numbers
that the camera affixed to them).

When you allow one file to "replace"
    another....the original is overwritten and
is not recoverable. Unless you have
backup copies your photos may be
    gone.

I think the default setting for many digital
cameras is to restart the numbering sequence
every time the memory card is removed.

You may want to check the settings for
your camera and set it to always begin
from the last number it used.
