I stupidly have deleted the second file and had my options set up to delete
the music file from my computer as well. When I look at the files in windows
explorer under my computer there is only one set of music files mp3 files.
Can someone please help me? Thanks in advance for your kind help.

God I am so stupid. Thanks a lot, Vincent. Do you have any idea why only some
of the songs are showing up as double? When I deleted in library the second
file which looked identical to the first the file wouldn't play anymore.
    Thanks for your help.

Sometimes WMP library screen and files run out of sync.
Reasons are unclear to me, heavy editing, having the rearrange option 'on'
and playing at the same time might be a cause.
In the library you can activate a column “File Path†to check if the doubles
    refer to the same file.
A more drastic way is to select all songs, delete them from the library and
not from the computer (guess you know how to do this by now) and do a rescan
    (add to library)

Thanks again, I was able to restore all of my songs back even though most are
showing up twice again after using the monitor folders button under the
Library tab in Options. I guess it is some fluke of Microsoft. At least
they work since that was a lot of mp3 files screwed up.
