Router/Modem settings may cause update and other problems

    Copied and pasted below is original message plus my reply to a Windows 2000
    update problem, but router/modem configuration could cause update problems
    for all Windows versions as stated in my reply.


    Have you recently installed or changed settings for modem or router? This
    is likely an issue with all Windows versions if this is the source of the
    problem. I encountered same message after installing a new router, and also
    no secure sites functioned normally, i.e. sites whose adresses begin with
    "https." You may need to contact your ISP or router tech support if you're
    unable to correctly configure modem and router. In my case the modem was
    configured as bridge and ISP info entered in router setup which I had to
    change to give routing function back to modem in modem setup. Hope this
