"Safely Remove Hardware" won't unlock my removable hard drive

I have an HP Media Center PC m7077c, and I just installed HP Personal Media
Drive (removable external hard drive). Every time I try to disconnect the
drive using the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon, I get a message "The device
""Generic volume"" cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device
    again later."

I have Norton Internet Security Suite, and I believe the Norton Protected
Recycle Bin is involved in this. I connected with HP online chat help, and he
    gave me the following link:
    http://david.fallingrock.net/2004/09/21/cannot-stop-device-right-now

I downloaded and ran the program, but don't understand the output.....the
drive is labeled Z:, and it doesn't show up in the report/snapshot? However,
I did something (don't remember what unfortunately) and got a message
    "Z:/RECYCLER.....norton????

Anyway, I'm stumped, at my wits end, and I can turn off the computer. But
that won't solve the problem. PLEASE HELP!!! I'm all Googled out

could you please post the error mesg or the output

i think i have that problem too

i never listen to that nag adn the protected recycle bin wont care if you
take it out because it is just monitering to make sure that a deleted file
    doesnt automaticly resurect itself
