Having built several PCs I thought I would do the same for a Media Centre PC
Unfortunately video decoding is a major problem. Reading Microsoft Knowledge
Base and News Groups it seems a lot of people are having the same problem..
Worse not many video decoder problems are getting sorted.

I have a OEM Windows Media Centre Edition running on a Foxconn 945G7MA
Motherboard with a Pentium 4, 3.4GHz CPU. 2.00GB of RAM. An NVIDIA GeForce
6800XT Graphics card (driver v 4020.185.00). All Windows updates are
installed all hardware updates are installed. I have fitted a WinTV-HVR-1100
(Hauppauge) DVB-T PCI card with latest drivers.

Having tried several video decoders (WinDVD etc), none of which work with
MCE I have re installed MCE and only the drivers software for installed
hardware with the exception of NVIDIA MPEG-2 video decoder (nvviddec.ax v
4020.185.00). Microsoft Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility lists only
this software and all three green ticks are present.

Can anybody advise why I cannot get MCE to play video either from CD,
internet or TV? Usual message 'The Video Decoder has either malfunctioned or
    is not installed'.

This problem only exists with Windows MCE as before I reinstalled MCE I
tried ‘ShowShifter Media’ and I could watch TV and play videos.

ANY HELP OR ADVICE WOULD BE MOST WELCOME.

    Thanks

    Gary
