Saving chats to text files

  1. Using the latest 2009 build under WinXP

How can I save the chats under WLMessenger as text files? Do I need
to use 3rd party software and if so any recommendations?

Type into google, MSN PLUS and it will take you to the website where you can
install a program that every user of messenger should use, it's really great.
ONE thing tho, at the beginning of install, refuse the sponsorship and deny
ask.com(i think) toolbar from being installed. It's good that they give you
the choice instead of just installing it. After that, goto Preferences and
set it how you like it. There's one of many options there for HTML or TEXT
saved messages, totally upto you and they can be encrypted with 4000+bit
    encryption.

    Good luck..

  3. I have installed MSN PLUS and comnfigured it, etc. but I can't figure
out if it archives past chats? And if I didn't want all the
additional functionality - is there a preference for a program that
just creates the text, HTML files as I has orginally asked?

Yes you can turn just about everything off and keep the chat files. If you
have old chat files that you want to archive, either with or without
encryption, you can do that too. The option to do it is in the preferences of
    the app.

    Hope that helps.

  5. Since my main concern is with old chat files, I looked at the options
and don't see the one; where is it on yours and thnak you. Do I need
    to install a custom macro?

Maybe give me detailed steps too please...

Goto MSN Plus Preferences/Conversations/Logs Encryption. Check the "Protect
my chatlogs with a password" box, choose your encryption key, in bits,
there's four to choose from, i always use the strongest but it's upto you
which you pick. Type your new password and password hint, then underneath
that there's a big blue button with "Re-encrypt log files" written on it. So
now all you do is click on that button and it'll encrypt your already
"existing log files" - as it says above the blue button. If you're still
having problems, i would make sure you have the latest version of MSN Plus
installed, even tho this option has been with MSN Plus for months and months
    anyway.

  7. The encryption password isn't taking so I am going to reinstall MSN
    Plus and try again....

Is there a way for me to just get the old chats translated to
    HTML/Text?

uninstall the apps in the order you installed them when you do, i.e msn plus
then messenger(i'd do a messenger re-install). There is a way to change html
to text, i can't remember off hand the name of the app, but it's microsofts
so you should find it, or give me a day and i'll get you the link for it. i
used it alot when i had it and best thing is, it's free. it should come
installed with windows if you ask me. now i think about it, there's a few
conversions i could do with starting on again that never got finished, before
i upgraded to windows 7. there's lots of apps that can do what you ask, even
probably online ones that do it for you, but online brings up privacy issues.
the reason i'm going to find the microsoft app for this kind of job is
because it's fast and simple to use, not that other apps aren't, just
personally i prefer to stick with what i know.
gone a little off subject here and there, sorry about that. now that app and
    it's link...
