SBE 2003 Install problem

  1. Hi,

    I have a Intel scsi based system that I am installing a
    fresh install of SBE on.

    All goes well then it get to 13min remaining, on
    registering components. Then it will just sit there. The
    HDD is still working and the CD-ROM working from time to

    Can someone please help me as I need this server running

    I posted a similar problem except it (apparently) hung up
    at 12 minutes. It's been sitting there for 75 minutes.
    Is that within a reasonable wait time or might I have a

    Dell 2600 Server with 73gb SCSI RAID 1 mirrored drives-I
    bought it clean and used Dell's tool to configure the
    RAID and moved right into SBS setup. Had some setup
    errors the first time through and now it hangs at 12 mins
    on each successive attempt to rerun setup. I'm about
    ready to re-format the drives and start over. It's
    almost 2 hrs and that can't be normal, even with extra
    security updates.

  9. I've seen it reported that if you pop the CD out and back in it might wake
    things up.

    MS was investigating this behaviour some time ago, but I never saw any
    result of that. Should try a kb or google search though, I guess. FWIW, I
    never saw that happen on a clean install on a 2600, and I didn't use the
    dell disk. But the dell disk isn't the problem anyway, it can happen with
    and without, and the issue is not restriced to dell boxes.

    Shayne, I would be discussing with Microsoft on how you can determin the
    of the disks (CDRoms/DVD) for this install.

    I spent 2 months with this problem when we purchased 2 licenses for SBS in
    February this year. I finally discovered that the initial code on the install
    disks had a time stamp limitation on the .dll files. consequently when yuo
    reach 12 or 13min you can sit there for 3 hours and go no further. If it does
    it does not work anyway.

    Half of the system is non functional, particularly round the intranet

    We approached Microsoft with the problem and indicated that we believed this
    install disks had this November 2003 Time Stamp on the .dll files. They
    provided us with a full replacement set of CD's/DVD for both licenses at a
    cost.....$75.00 each.

    I would pursue this avenue as I feel strongly you have a set of these disks,
    they should have all been recalled, my supplier could not run away fast
    enough....did'nt want to know. The only other item I can suggest to you is
    Ensure you FULLY format your hardc drive as NTFS....NO QUICK FORMAT.

    I am seeing current dates on your replies from Microsoft.......They should
    be fully aware of this problem, it was resolved in around March of this year.
