After installing ISA 2004 from CD3 of the SBS 2003 SP1, there were no
errors, but the Firewall service will not start, logging System event 7024
"The Microsoft Firewall service terminated wit service-specific error
    2144746291 (0x800401F3). Any ideas

  2. TechNet has several hits for the 7024 error, but this is the only one I saw
that references ISA 2004. Any help here?

"The Microsoft Firewall service does not start and event ID 7024 is logged
in the system event log of the computer that is running ISA Server 2004";en-us;837864

Thanks Dave, I have had a look at this. None of the other errors appear,
and as the only rules I have came out of the SBS SP1 box, I'd like to hope
there weren't many errors in them.

    Thank anyway, I appreciate it.

  4. You might be able to sneak this in as a free PSS call since the ISA install
is part of a service pack.

With the firewall service failing, the server's blocking all LAN traffic,
right? It might be worth a call even if you have to pay for it.

Thank you Dave I might do that. Yes you are right, with the firewall unable
to start it blocks all traffic, and so wittout assistance we would otherwise
have no option but to regress it out again.

    Regards, Colin.

I reran this, taking special care to cler out the event logs first, and
although no errors were reported the following two application error events
    were logged by MSIInstaller:

    1) Event 1015 LOCAL\Administrator "Failed to connect to server. Error
    2) Event 11729 LOCAL\Administrator "MSDE - configuration failed" with a
registry key which points to MSSQL$MSFW, surprise, suprise.

Does this give anybody any further information. Is there another newsgroup
    to whom I could cross-post?

    Regards, Colin.

  7. My best advice would be to call PSS, even if you have to pay, and get this
sorted out. Even if this is not severely impacting your operation, don't
forget the value of your own time.

My second-best advice would be to write down any web publishing rules. Then
delete them as described in the KB I posted before. That KB is the only
info I've been able to find that even remotely relates to this, so I think
it may be valid despite the fact that the only rules were created by SBS.

My third-best advice would be to go to control panel add/remove and select
ISA (I can't remember whether ISA has its own listing or if you have to
select SBS first). If there's a repair option, you could try running that
first. Otherwise, completely uninstall and reinstall ISA to see if that
helps. Please do all of this from add/remove, not by directly accessing
    setup on the CD.

If you go the reinstall route and you have any manually-created settings in
ISA, don't forget to back those up or write them down first.
