SBS2008 + KB967723 failing to install on Windows Update - but appears to
    already be installed ?

It reports failed even after downloading all other updates and trying
    multiple times following server retsarts.

Though looking at the list of installed updates it seems to indicate that it
was installed back on November 2009 ?

    Anyone ?

It is listed in the control panel as being installed in November 2009 along
    with another load of updates.

I see from having a look around the net that I'm not the only one with this
    problem.

I also seem to recall I've had this happen on another server somewhere else
and seem to recall that a week or so later it just went off the radar..

I'll have a look in WSUS.

    thanks Russ.

  4. What error do you get when it 'fails' to install? If it's 0x80070490, try
running the checksur tool as mentioned in KB 958044.

958044 You receive a "0x80070490" error code when you use Windows Update or
Microsoft Update Web sites to install updates

Yes, that is the error code..

I followed your advice and downloaded the tool and ran it, it installed OK.

Checked the log files, one of them have a great many references to KB967723,
thousands of lines by the looks of things..

But the two smaller log files say no errors found.

Tried running another update, same error message..

    Jim.

  6. Does the checksur output report some missing files related to the 967723
update? If so, that is most likely why it is being reoffered, but won't
reinstall. The installation of that update is in an inconsistent state. To
fix it, you'll need to manually put the missing files back where they
    belong.

You can try getting them from another box or by extracting the contents of
the update to a temp folder, then pick and choose the ones that need to be
    put back.

I also had the same problem on my sbs 2008 32 bit and sbs 2008 64 bit
All you need to do is uninstall the previous update KB967723, then manually
download the KB967723 update from microsoft website,
