Scheduled Backups - New Tape

Discussion in 'Windows Server' started by Mike Schumann, Nov 23, 2004.

  1. I am running Windows 2003 Server. I have scheduled an automatic backup
every evening to a DAT tape. Each night's backup is appended to the end of
the tape, which stays in the drive.

After about a month or two, the tape fills up. When that happens, I insert
a new tape and make an initial manual backup, so that the volume is
initialized. The volume label that I use includes the Backup Tape number,
so it changes slightly from tape to tape.

Here's the question: With the new Backup functionality in Windows 2003
Server (compared to Windows NT 4.0), the backup volume id is saved as part
of the schedule. Is there an easy way to change the volume id in the
scheduled backups, or do I have to delete the backups that are scheduled and
reschedule new backups (which is a real pain)?
