    I've just seen a 14-month-old Barracuda 7200.10 die with its platters
    seized almost solid, in a machine used for no more than a few hundred
    hours. Maybe just coincidence, but definitely *not* firmware, and not
    the kind of failure I'd expect to see at that age. OEM, so out of
    warranty, of course.
